Emu Oil for Piercing Aftercare

If you've just gotten or thinking about getting a new piercing, then you need to know about the one product that many professionals in the piercing and tattoo industry recommend to all their clients.

That product: emu oila pure, naturally refined oil that significantly improves healing during the important aftercare process of any body piercing.

Why Emu Oil Works So Well for Piercings

A new piercing requires special care in order for it to heal properly. And, as with any wound, new piercings are at risk for infection. Even with proper care, redness and swelling are common at the site of a new piercing.

Emu oil contains a high concentration of essential fatty acids and other nutrients. These nutrients promote anti-inflammation, pain relief, and improved nourishment of your skin.

Emu oil is even anti-bacterial, which is crucial for preventing infections.

Natural and pure Emu oil is recommended by Elayne Angel, past President of the Association of Professional Piercers and author of The Piercing Bible

"I think it is fantastic for healing everything, including body piercings (whether new and healing, in the process of stretching, or having a flare up).

Those of us who have experienced it's amazing affects become true believers."

How does emu oil compare to other piercing aftercare products?

Organic and pure Emu oil is more similar to our own skin oil than any other oil available.

Because its lipid profile is so close to that of human skin oil, our skin "recognizes" it and allows it to penetrate much better and deeper than other oils, creams and ointments.

Emu oil's molecules are very small, so it penetrates the skin much more deeply compared to conventional ointments or lotions--and it won't clog pores.

This makes emu oil a powerful yet gentle product that accelerates the healing process and keeps your skin healthy.

And since it works so well to keep the skin moisturized, emu oil also prevents build up of crusty residue and scarring at the piercing site, drastically reducing discomfort and risk of infection. This is exactly what makes it the most recommended product in the piercing and tattoo industry, because it helps prevent issues like infected piercing and abnormal tattoo scabbing. Emu oil also helps keep skin moist and pliable, allowing for better skin stretching.

"I recently got a daith piercing on my left ear. A friend told me to apply emu oil three times a day to speed up healing. Not only did the new piercing heal faster than any other piercing I've had before, but it also was way less red and painful. I'll never get another piercing without it!"

How to Apply Emu Oil for Piercing Aftercare

After cleansing your piercing and jewelry, apply a small dab of emu oil to a clean finger (a very little amount is needed since the oil is so potent). Massage the oil gently into the skin, near the openings of the piercing. Use 2-3 times daily.

Some people choose to apply emu oil directly to a jewelry stud, which helps to prevent skin tears when inserting the piercing.

Emu oil can safely be applied to any body piercing, including:

  • Tragus
  • Anti-tragus
  • Helix
  • Snug
  • Earlobe
  • Cartilage
  • Conch
  • Rook
  • Daith
  • Eyebrow
  • Nipple
  • Genitals
  • Navel
  • Nostril
  • Septum

It can even be used orally, making it safe to use for vertical labret and tongue piercings, as well.

"Thanks to using emu oil, my new nose piercing healed up quickly and with way less pain compared to past piercings. I love how clean-feeling and odorless it is, and that such a little bit goes a long way."

Precautions With Your Piercings

Emu oil is an incredibly safe and gentle product, with no known side effects or adverse reactions.  That said, here are a few things to be aware of:

    • Proper hygiene is extremely important with all piercing aftercare. Before applying emu oil, be sure to wash your hands. You will also need to thoroughly clean your skin and jewelry per your piercing artist's recommendations. Avoid using rubbing alcohol, as this can dry out your skin.
    • Some redness, tenderness, and swelling is normal at a new piercing site. However, if any of these symptoms last longer than a few days, or become worse over time, then it could mean the piercing has become infected. If you suspect your piercing is infected, you should speak with your piercing artist or your doctor.
    • Be sure that you are using only AEA Certified pure refined emu oil, like the kind found in Emu Joy products. New piercings are highly sensitive to products with synthetic ingredients and chemicals.
