1. No more pulling!
A very common cause of hair loss is traction alopecia. This type of hair loss is caused by too much pulling and strain on the hair. It often happens to people who style their hair with:
2. Keep your scalp clean and healthy
Fungus can actually grow on the scalp if it's not properly cleaned regularly.
It's critical to maintain a clean scalp so that the roots don't get contaminated with bacteria. Use a shampoo formulated for dry and damaged hair and massage your scalp for a few minutes while washing. This helps increase circulation which nourishes the hair follicle.
3. Be gentle
Use your fingers to gently detangle your hair before washing. Always work from the ends and then move towards the scalp. After washing - gently - apply a moisturizing conditioner formulated for dry hair. Use a wide tooth comb or detangling brush and work through the hair, again starting at the tips and gradually moving closer to the scalp.
If you want to detangle dry hair between washings rub a few drops of a lubricating oil between your palms (emu oil is good for this) and run your fingers through your hair to lightly coat it with the oil. Finger detangle or use a wide tooth comb.
4. Stay away from chemical straightening
The chemicals used to relax hair work by swelling open the hair fibers. They then penetrate the protein structure of the hair shaft which weakens its internal bonds and causes the natural curl to loosen and relax.
The entire structure of the hair is changed, making it very fragile and prone to breakage.
More and more women are embracing their natural hair these days, with beautiful results.
